*****
The theme of this work is love. Different objects in this painting all reference this, the cittern a symbol of romantic music along with the sheet of music left on chair, and most notably the painting of the sail boat in the sea, which in the 17th century stood for the relationship between love (the sea) and the lovers (the ship). This is a perfect example of Vermeer's work, who always aimed to capture the more intimate and isolated moments of the world.
Ask about museum style framing. While many dealers do "in house documents" we use 2 outside experts for reports.
